HMY Britannia
Last of the Royal Yachts
The Britannia was launched at John Brown’s Shipyard in Clydebank on April 16, 1953, two months before the Queen’s coronation and the conquering of Mount Everest.

McInnes Gardner was appointed as the interior design firm to fit out the Royal Britannia with the drawings still present at the firm in co-operation with Sir Hugh Casson.

She was decommissioned in Portsmouth on December 11, 1997, after 44 years in service, an occasion which is said to have brought tears to the Queen's eyes.

Now retired from royal service, Britannia is permanently berthed at Ocean Terminal, Leith in Edinburgh, Scotland.
